ABOUT THE STONE MOUNTAIN ART CENTER OWNERS

Carol Noonan and Jeff Flagg...Have been married for over a decade and decided their lives were getting too “normal”. Flagg, a commercial fishing net builder and Noonan, a national recording artist and singer songwriter, have teamed up to bring arts to the country in a very special way. Carol’s own performing experience makes her uniquely qualified to take on this task, but only with the help of Jeff who is as hard a working Maine boy as you’re going to find this side of the White Mountains! He is a huge music fan and a passion for the grand timber frame that houses the Stone Mountain Arts Center. Noonan has toured nationally, done three albums for the Rounder Record label, and in recent years has started her own label on her rural property in Maine. She is an NPR darling, and has been reviewed on Weekend Edition as well as been a featured essayist, one essay of which will be included on the 2006 annual NPR Driveway Moment cd.

Here is what critics have said about Noonan’s own work over the years:

.........Carol Noonan respects all the right traditions of English and Irish folk music with her soulful quaver, reminiscent of Sandy Denny..........her beautiful voice offers the consolation music is supposed to provide.
(Playboy Magazine)

......Brilliant modern folk singer, Dave Marsh (Bruce Springsteen biographer)

........"Carol Noonan's voice is scintillating... it illuminates songs and words from a bygone era that are, unfortunately, as timely today as ever."
(Ned Wharton Producer/Director NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday)

........"It is a testament to Carol's writing ability that the originals on 'Somebody's Darling' mesh seamlessly with the traditionals. This is songwriting for the long haul. These songs are sad, yes. But delivered in Carol's voice, they stir and inspire the soul."
(Rob Reinhart/Acoustic Cafe)

........Carol Noonan seems to exist beyond time......Noonan has forged a distinctive dreamy style, that is as breathtaking as her rich alto voice. She sounds at times like a 90's Sandy Denny, soaring into the heavens even as she hits you in the heart.......(Steve Morse Boston Globe)

.......No one hypnotizes quite the way that Carol Noonan does. She's a deeply
honest, soul-piercing singer whose latest album is an exalted trip into a
minefield of emotions.''
(2 reviews from Steve Morse/Arts Editor Boston Globe)

........Singer songwriter Carol Noonan's voice has been described as "timeless." And indeed, you can almost imagine that voice singing songs on the American prairie, 150 years ago -- new music, with an old sound.......
(Noah Adams' Introduction on NPR’s Day to Day)
