Our WALTZING for DREAMERS
FREE MUSIC SERIES

This FREE concert series is made possible by
Carol, Jeff and the Crew at SMAC
in partnership with the kind sponsorship
of Poland Spring Water Company.

What's the Waltzing for Dreamers FREE Music Series?

The name comes from Richard Thompson's tune, and the album that I did in support of this series the first year we started. The Waltzing for Dreamers Series is where we bring unknown acts to the arts center and the admission is free! The musicians and still get paid, and get out big star hospitality. How do we do that?

The sponsorship and SMAC's dinner take that night pays for bringing the artist here so we can let folks come here for free to see a concert. So Jeff and I donate the night to this series and all the crew works for a little less if need be to help too.

And speaking of donation... we use this series as an opportunity to collect good for the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter. You will see the van chalk full of dog, cat food and sundries on these nights that will be delivered to our friends art Harvest Hills the next day.

We try to do as many of these concerts as we can afford. That way everyone can enjoy us...not just those who can afford a ticket. And its a great way for a band to come up and play to a full room. Its hard to break in new acts up here in the willy wags :>)  This series allows up and coming artists to come up, get paid, and gain a lot of new fans.

I would have killed for this program when I was touring towns that I was not well known. ...which were many :>) Anyway, it's a series that we are very proud of and we thank Poland Spring for helping us to bring it to life again. See what shows we have lined up below!
By the way....that album I mentioned is still for sale and still feeds this series ....pick one up and support all the "Dreamers"!

xoxoxo Carol, Jeff, and Crew

JUNE

SERIES FEATURE: Jeremy Kittel

Jeremy KittelHere is one great musician but not a household name ....yet!!! Exactly what the series is meant to showcase! Jeremy Kittel has earned a reputation as one of the most exceptional violinists and fiddlers of his generation. With tremendous musicality; a rare mastery of styles as diverse as jazz, Scottish and Irish fiddle, bluegrass, classical music, and more; a unique compositional voice, and an “exhilarating stage presence” (Strings Magazine), Kittel inspires listeners and fans worldwide through his solo work and collaborations. You know if master fiddler Alasdair Fraser says "this guy is a great .....you should get him"....well that's enough for me. Jeremy jumps easily from genre to genre but his talent on the violin is always the same...just terrific. Watch him on YouTube

SERIES FEATURE: Mandolin Orange
   click for website
Mandolin OrangeMandolin Orange has been quietly gathering local and faraway fans since its debut album was released back in 2010. The North Carolina duo's music is what I would call true American folk music -- laced with bluegrass, country and folk. Beautiful old timey voices and harmonies, simple sweet arrangements on mando and guitar... with their own unique songwriting. I read somewhere that they sounded like a record from the 1945..Oh I hope so!! Mandolin Orange has been quietly gathering local and faraway fans since its debut album was released back in 2010. SEPTEMBER

DATE:  Friday, September 18, 2015
SERIES FEATURE: The Lonely Heartstring Band
  click for website
The Lonely HeartstringsThe Lonely Heartstring band is a five-peice bluegrass instrumentation band from Boston that plays original acoustic music ,traditional bluegrass and, as the name suggests, a swath of Beatles covers. The band formed as a response to a request for a bluegrass wedding band playing exclusively Beatles songs. A year and a half later, LHB is performing tradition-informed original songs and tunes as well as some of the standard bluegrass repertoire. They will embark on a cross-continent summer tour from the west coast of Canada to New York. The band is young, excited, and rising fast in the New England acoustic scene. The members graduated from the Berklee, where they met, and blend passion and soul with instrumental virtuosity and three-part harmonies. Don't miss these stars rising!!!

OCTOBER

SERIES FEATURE:
Bold Riley   click for more info
Bold RileyBold Riley started as a simple music project among friends in a barn in Norway, Maine and quickly gained momentum thanks to the group’s unbridled enthusiasm and commitment to bringing joyful acoustic folk music to the greater community. Though their instrumentation seems to keep expanding, Bold Riley’s lineup begins with Julia Edwards of Bridgton on guitar and accordion, John Gunn of Cumberland on clawhammer banjo and percussion, Michael Hayashida of Auburn on fiddle and guitar, and Erin Sampson of Casco with the icing-on-the-cake vocals. All members take turns singing lead, and songs range from classic protest folk favorites to unlikely covers to rousing originals. This crew puts on a great show, one that may even have you singing along one moment and dancing the next. Don’t miss this one -- they may just be your new local favorite. p.s. and Erin got married at SMAC...so talk about full circle!

NOVEMBER

SERIES FEATURE:
Dietrich Strause and Band  click for more info
Dietrich StrauseI love this kid..yes in my book..a kid. A Boston-based singer/songwriter who is hard to describe. Kinda Josh Rittery, or Paul Simony...but really very unique and perfect for Song Stage. My Secret Boston said, “Strause’s creations come at you first with their simple charm, a lot of which resides in his gentle persona and friendly attitude. "It’s hard not to like this kid. But this kid is as mature and tested as any one of his local song writing elders.” A great quote, and speaking of secrets, Dietrich wont be one for long :.)
